Some History...the Volvo Iron Mark

Everyone knows what the Volvo Iron Mark logo looks like, but not all understand the meaning behind it. Some confuse it for the male symbol...nope. It is actually, as the title implies, the symbol for Iron.

Since iron and steel are looked upon as strong, it is fitting that Volvo used the iron mark. The word "Volvo", is Latin for "I roll"...so when you put the iron mark together with the word Volvo, the result is "Rolling Strength."

The iron mark has changed over time and was even used on the very first Volvo ever produced, the 1927 OV4. The "Volvo Slash" was actually used as a way to attach the Iron Mark to the front of the car, and just carried on as an enhanced way to distinguish the vehicle as a Volvo.

Bigger (Emblem) is Better

So, here's another change for model year 2010...On the S80 and V70, you will notice a BIG change in the design....well, not in the overall design, but the Volvo Iron Mark logo. It is bigger then ever before. Another change to note, is that the logo is no longer in a square frame. The classic Volvo "slash" is still present of course, but the entire logo now has a fresher and neater appearance.
If you could have spotted a Volvo from a mile away before, now that range will increase even further. This updated emblem first appeared on the 2010 XC60, which is available at Lehman Volvo Mechanicsburg and Lehman Volvo York.

Gearheads Rejoice...Volvo doubles manual transmission options for 2010

My first 2 Volvos both had manual transmissions...and for good reason. They are just fun! Sure, the geartronic transmission is very good, but there is a small percentage of the US population that just have to have a stick...myself included.

The C30 hatchback and C70 convertible have always been available with a nice 6 speed manual, but for 2010 Volvo has added that option on both the S40 sedan and V50 Sportswagon.

The S40 manual is available in front-wheel-drive 2.4i trim as well as T5 R-Design AWD.

The V50 manual is available in the T5 R-Design AWD.

There are not a lot of sporty turbocharged manual transmission wagons on the market, and the V50 is simply an awesome choice. Perfect blend of practicality, safety...and of course...FUN!

Support for those in Education!

Education is a challenging field to be in, so Volvo is rewarding those in the National Education Association with savings of $1,500 on the 2009 Volvo C70, S80, XC70 and XC90.

So that's pretty nice, but what's really nice is that the savings are on top of the current offers already in place.

Are you a member of the NEA? If so you could be saving $6,000 on a new C70...and what better way to get ready for summer break?
